There’s something truly special about photographing a small, intimate wedding—especially when it takes place in the familiar surroundings of your hometown, and maybe even your families backyard. Recently, I had the honor of capturing one such wedding in Livermore, California. The day was filled with love, joy, and an undeniable sense of closeness that a backyard celebration emulates.
Alyssa + James chose to tie the knot at James childhood home—a place rich with memories, beauty, and sentimental value. When they chose me as their California wedding photographer, I knew we’d create something beautiful together.
The backyard, a lush oasis surrounded by towering trees and beautiful rural views, offered a serene and picturesque setting for the day’s events. With the golden California sun casting a warm glow, the atmosphere was nothing short of magical.
Weddings like this one remind me of the beauty in the details. From the bride’s wildflower bouquet to the mismatched vintage chairs, every element was thoughtfully curated to reflect the couple’s personalities. I always love spending time capturing the little things and moments: when the sunlight catches the brides veil just right, when the groom calls his bride his wife for the first time, and even the family dog, who was the honorary ring bearer!
The California 1 Traveling Photo Bus made a special appearance as another fun photo option for guests. Note: If you’re getting married in California, you have to have them at your wedding!
As a photographer, smaller weddings hold a special place in my heart. They offer the chance to build a deeper connection with the couple and their guests, which allows me to capture the day’s most intimate moments authentically. With fewer distractions, the focus remains on the love between the bride and groom, and that love shines through every photograph.
This beautiful backyard wedding in California was a reminder of why I fell in love with wedding photography in the first place. It’s not about the grandeur or the extravagance—it’s about the love, the moments, and the memories that will last a lifetime. I am so grateful to have been a part of this special day, and I look forward to capturing many more intimate weddings like this one.
(or outside of California, yes, I do travel!)
